ComboCM - Cost Modelling System

ComboCM is a robust cost modelling tool that enables hospitals to understand costs at the level of a set of user-defined products which, typically, are a set of patient classes as represented, for example, by the DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) classification. The products may relate to a range of programs including inpatient, outpatient and emergency classes, but also programs such as teaching and research to enable all hospitals outputs to be costed.

ComboCM was selected by the Australian Commonwealth Department of Health in 1997 to process hospital cost data from around Australia for the annual National Hospital Cost Data Collection, and has been used by the Australian Government for this purpose for the thirteen rounds of the collection to date. In recent rounds, ComboCM has been used to process the data for up to 240 public and 120 private hospitals. The data are assembled from hospital, area or State level ComboCM databases into a national ComboCM database and the ComboCM report generator is used to produce all tables required in the annual Cost Report including population estimates.

ComboCM is a powerful costing tool for hospitals, or health departments, that wish to understand product costing in hospitals without the far more significant commitment of resources and time required to implement patient or clinical costing. Since our costing systems are upwards compatible, an upgrade path to patient or clinical costing is provided.
